What if I told you Australia isn’t one country… but dozens of tribes?  Some are obvious - like Baby Boomers or Millennials.  But others… like KIPPERS, YUMMYs, or NETTELS… quietly shape our housing markets, our economy, and even your investment returns.  While we often talk about markets, interest rates, and economic cycles…the real drivers of long-term change are people.  And more specifically, how different groups of people behave.  Because Australia isn’t just one homogenous population - it’s made up of what demographers call “tribes.”  And today, Simon Kuestenmacher and I decode the tribes that most investors and business people completely overlook…and why understanding them could give you a serious edge.  Not just the obvious ones like Baby Boomers or Millennials…  But the lesser-known groups that are quietly reshaping our cities.   Join us as we provide insights into understanding generational perspectives for strategic decision-making in property and business.    Takeaways Understanding demographic tribes is key to property, business and market success.  YOLO and Yummies influence housing demand.  Dinks and Kippers impact household formation.  Silver Stylers redefine…

Australia is about to change more in the next 10 years than it did in the last 30.  Not because of politics. Not because of technology. But because of demographics.  Where Australians live, how old we are, how many migrants arrive, how fast we age – all of this will shape property markets, business opportunities, government policy, and your financial future.  And most people are completely unprepared.  Today, Simon Kuestenmacher and I unpack what Australia will look like in the next decade – and what that means for you.  We discuss the impact of demographic changes on Australia's future property markets, infrastructure, and economy.  We delve into the emotions versus facts in migration debates and the concentration of population in major cities.  Additionally, we analyse the implications of early wealth transfer and societal inequality.  Join us…

What if the biggest risk to your business, and your property portfolio isn’t interest rates or migration?  What if it’s image?  Right now, whole industries in Australia have an image problem. And that’s not just a PR issue - it’s a demographic time bomb.  Today Simon Kuestenmacher explains why young Australians are quietly rejecting certain careers, how that will reshape our workforce, and what it means for wages, inflation, housing demand and long-term investment strategy.  In this episode Simon and I, explore the profound impact of industry image issues on workforce dynamics, economic factors, and housing markets.  Additionally, we analyse the potential of AI, robotics, and automation to alleviate labour shortages and the challenges involved.  Join us as we provide insights to help you understand the…

Australia’s population is growing – we all know that. But here’s the problem. Most people are looking at the wrong numbers.  They’re focused on headline population growth, migration totals, and whether we’ll hit 40 million people one day.  What they’re missing is who is growing, when, and what stage of life they’re moving into.  Because property markets aren’t driven by population size. They’re driven by household formation, life-stage transitions, income peaks, downsizing decisions, and care needs.  And right now, Australia is experiencing one of the most powerful and underappreciated demographic shifts we’ve seen in decades.  Over the next five years, we’re going to see some significant demographic shifts, meaning increased demand for different types of housing in different locations at very different price points.  So in today’s episode, Simon Kuestenmacher and I discuss Australia's evolving demographics and their impact on property markets.  We analyse population projections up to 2030 and their implications for…

Most Australians think retirement is simple - work hard, pay off the home, build a nest egg, then spend carefully so you do not run out.  But here is the uncomfortable truth.  A lot of people do retirement backwards. They spend their healthiest years accumulating. Then, when they finally have the money, they have less energy, less mobility, and fewer meaningful chances to use it well.  And at the same time, we are watching a quiet shift in Australia. Inheritances and the Bank of Mum and Dad are starting to matter as…

A war thousands of kilometres away might seem like something that only affects geopolitics or oil markets.  But what if it actually exposes something much bigger about Australia’s economic model?  For decades, Australia has relied on a very simple formula for prosperity: we dig resources out of the ground, sell them to the world, and import much of what we consume.  But geopolitical shocks - like the escalating conflict involving Iran - remind us just how interconnected our economy really is.  Oil prices spike. Supply chains wobble. Inflation rises. Interest rates may stay higher for longer.  And suddenly events in the Middle East can ripple through Australian households, businesses, and even our property markets.  So today Simon Kuestenmacher and I unpack what this conflict could mean for Australia’s economic future as well as our housing markets.  Because this isn’t really about Iran.  It’s about the strengths and vulnerabilities of Australia’s entire economic model.  Takeaways Australia's resilience comes from a simple economic structure.   Conflicts raise prices, benefiting resource-rich exporters.   Systemic understanding is superior to headline-driven reactions.   Global interconnectedness heightens national anxiety and behavior.   Demographic strengths ensure Australia's future economic stability.   Economic pillars…

If you listen to the media, you’d think property prices are driven by interest rates, immigration numbers, and whatever the RBA does next month.  But when you strip away the noise and look at what actually moves prices over the medium term, there’s one factor that quietly dominates everything else. …

Every few years, we’re told the same story.  That regional Australia has finally cracked the code. That young people are fleeing the cities. That work-from-home has changed everything. And that country towns are the future of housing and lifestyle in Australia.  But when you strip away the headlines and look…
